In the marketing field, or in any field for that matter, testimonials are a powerful tool. Studies show that word-of-mouth is the best form of advertising, so it is always nice when you receive a great testimonial, and even nicer when you receive them unexpectedly!

Over the weekend, I was getting my hair done for a wedding I was standing in, when, as small talk often goes in the hair salon, my stylist asked what I do for a living. I explained that I work in the funeral industry and talked about the concept of preneed and its importance in our industry and in society.

While I usually anticipate strange looks and remarks of “Oh, well that’s interesting,” my stylist interrupted me during my usual spiel about why preplanning is important and said, “Oh I know exactly what you mean.”

She went on to say that her grandmother had recently passed away, and to her and her family’s immense relief, she had had a preneed policy.

She said that she did not know what she would have done if she or any other members of her family had been faced with the emotionally and financially grueling task of planning her grandmother’s funeral.

At that moment, all I could do was smile and say, “Exactly.”

She got it. Her family got it. That is what you hope for in the preneed industry – for people to experience the essence of what it means to preplan. It is why we do what we do everyday.

Have you ever received an unexpected testimonial? Let us know in the comments. It is always nice to hear daily affirmations that reassure you that you are doing right and making a difference.

Have a great day everyone, and keep on keepin’ on!
